First and foremost, happy new year! We wish you health, happiness and mucho cafecito to get you through the tough stuff in 2016. On our end, we already enjoyed our first ski run of the year and it's snowing again so we're on track for our best year yet. And, while we're ones to look forward—not backward—we're excited to kick off the year with a quick look back at our year-long Instagram photography project. (ICYMI, the first of every month we posted a photo of the same stretch of beach South of Fifth under the hashtag #OdeToMiami2015, all of which we've posted below.)
The #OdeToMiami2015 project was a fun undertaking for many reasons, but what we enjoyed most was documenting how our favorite beach changed in the past 365 days. We watched it go from crowded to empty to crowded as tourist season came and went. We watched wind swell, bounce swell, and hurricane swell pleasantly surprise South Beach's wave starved surfers. We watched the dune receive a June restoration and fill back in by October. And, in November, we watched a new lifeguard stand arrive where one had never been before.
What we learned from this project, and will keep in mind in 2016, is that you have to stop every once in a while to appreciate the world as it forms around you. Life is constantly changing and you might miss those changes if you don't stop to look. And that's the double truth, Ruth.
